Crackdown on motorists flouting parking rules         20/2/12

Motorists are warned they face a crackdown on bad parking in Stornoway town centre.

Some drivers are parking in banned spaces like pedestrianised areas while others are abusing the pay-and-display carpark.

Both Northern Constabulary and the Comhairle are stepping up their enforcement of traffic regulations.

The bodies say they are working together to improve traffic management issues in Stornoway for the benefit of car users and pedestrians.

Drivers are reminded of the restrictions on the use of the pedestrianised area of the town centre and the pay and display in Perceval Square carpark.

The authorities say there is misuse of parking in Point Street and it is hoped that the clampdown and increased monitoring will free up short term car parking spaces in Perceval Square carpark.
