A Stornoway man has been sentenced to two years in prison for holding a knife to a woman’s throat.

Paul Simmonds attacked the female at an address in Stornoway, in September last year.

A jury found the 41-year-old, formerly of Plantation Road, guilty of the offence after a High Court trial in Edinburgh last month.

There was insufficient evidence to convict him of an original charge of sexual assault with intent to rape a woman.

The judge, Lady Stacey, jailed Simmonds for two years.

He will be supervised for 12 months when he is released from jail.
