Jail for knife offence            2/2/12

A Lewis man has been jailed for 16 months after confronting two females with a knife.

Grant Stewart, 20, of The old House, 4 Lewis street, Stornoway, previously pleaded guilty to brandishing the blade and uttering verbal threats .

Procurator fiscal David Teale said Stewart was in an agitated state and brandished a 16 inch long knife at some young people in Bayhead playpark in Stornoway on Tuesday 10th January.

One of them hugged him as another disarmed him and managed to throw the knife to the ground.

Stewart became aggressive when police arrived and attempted to head butt one officer.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court Sheriff David Sutherland sentenced Stewart to 16 months in jail which includes 10 months of an unexpired prison term for a separate offence.
