With the Scottish Elections only a few weeks away, members of the general public have the opportunity of attending a hustings event in Stornoway on Friday.

The event has been organised by the Western Isles branch of the Federation of Small Business.

Local branch chairperson Alistair Maclennan said: " All of the constituency candidates have been invited and we are hoping for a good turnout to ensure that they are put through their paces.

"The theme is how, if elected, they will work to strengthen our island economy and our communities – very topical given all the discussions about devolution for the Western and Northern Isles."

Given the fishing tragedy with the crew of the MFV Louisa there will be a retiring collection for the Fishermens Mission to "acknowledge the fantastic work they carry out locally and throughout the rest of the country."

The hustings take place in the Nicolson Institute, Stornoway at 7.30pm.
