Freight ferry breaks down after upgrade 23/12/11
The Stornoway freight ferry MV Muirneag has broken down just two days after returning from an extended refit.
The Muirneag was unable to carry out her sailing to Ullapool last night.
The MV Isle of Lewis stood in and undertook a third run across the Minch with her cardeck full of lorries.
The Muirneag is not owned by Cal Mac but is chartered from Harrison Clyde, and managed by V Ships, until 2013.
For the past few weeks she was in drydock in Gydnia in Poland undergoing necessary work to keep her within safety requirements to continue regular freight sailings until she is taken off the Ullapool to Stornoway crossing in two years.
