Delays for Stornoway ferry traffic            12/8/14

Stornoway ferry traffic will face delays with the Ullapool road closed for long periods today (Tues) due to landslip debris.

The A835 was closed for much of yesterday due to severe flooding at Leckmeln, South of Ullapool.

This was caused when earth and rocks, washed off the adjacent forestry area, inundated three drainage culverts which then blocked. This then caused the road to flood causing three landslides.

The road has not fully opened as heavy machinery is on site clearing the debris.

Traffic coming off the Stornoway ferry is now getting through after the road reopened briefly this morning.

The A835 is closed at three locations and delayed traffic for the ferry is being let through in a single file convoy at times.

A convoy is expected to take place every 30 to 60 minutes.

Trunk road operator BEAR Scotland is in contact with Calmac regarding ferry timings with the next ferry departure at 6.15pm this evening.
