Clansman on Ullapool ferry run          22/1/12

The MV Clansman will take over from the MV Isle of Lewis which is heading for drydock in Birkenhead, Liverpool, after today (Sun).

The Oban-based Clansman which normally sails to Barra and South Uist will undertake Ullapool run for the next 16 days.

Though Clansman is a smaller vessel Cal Mac does not anticipate any problems in carrying extra lorries if she has to be called in to cover for any mechanical breakdown of the Muirneag freight ferry.

The ferry operator says that based on  projected traffic there should not be any problems.

A spokesman stressed: “But we're not complacent and will be monitoring the situation closely. If any problems arise there are things we can do to minimise the impact. “

Next month the MV Hebrides is due to go into drydock in Aberdeen.

Meanwhile, bad weather affected ferry sailings on Saturday including the MV Isle of Lewis which did not return after her morning departure to Ullapool.

Passengers booked on yesterday’s two runs from the mainland were taken over on an additional sailing this morning.
