Stornoway ferry returns 20/2/12
The MV Isle of Lewis has resumed her Ullapool run in just the nick of time for Cal Mac which seems to be running short of usable ships.
The MV Hebridean Isles which was covering for the regular Stornoway ferry was urgently needed for the Mull service after the MV Isle of Mull crashed into the pier at Oban on Saturday.
The vessel’s bow and gangway were damaged after she was caught in high winds.
The MV Hebridean Isles has been assigned to cover the Mull runs rather than return on her Islay route as expected after being based in the Western Isles for the past three weeks.
Her relief period on the Stornoway service was extended after the MV Isle of Lewis was delayed in returning from drydock after requiring an unscheduled engine overhaul and sustained damage after smashing into the harbour at Birkenhead.
The MV Isle of Lewis was timetabled to resume on Sunday but arrived earleir after making good time upt he Minch. She took up her normal services on Saturday lunchtime.
Meanwhile the Caledonian Isles was also damaged after hittting the harbour wall in Ardrossan resulting in delayed services.
