Crashed Stornoway ferry is repaired           15/2/12

The MV Isle of Lewis is expected to resume sailings on the Stornoway to Ullapool route this weekend.

The ship has been repaired after crashing into the quayside at Birkenhead where she was being overhauled in drydock

She is due to leave Birkenhead tomorrow (Thurs) afternoon and expected to arrive in Stornoway on Friday.

It is planned to take over from the relief ship, MV Hebridean Isles, on the route on Sunday. If she makes good time heading north she may well restart her normal timetable on Saturday.

The Hebridean Isles is needed to pick up Islay runs on Monday morning.

The return of the MV Isle of Lewis will miss the mass exodus from Lewis this weekend as the islands’ schools are on an extended break due to the Stornoway Communions.

Cal Mac says it is confident that the smaller and slower MV Hebridean Isles can cope with the extra traffic.
