Engine problems delays return of Stornoway ferry             17/2/14

The return of the MV Isle of Lewis ferry has hit problems. The vessel is not expected to take up her route between Stornoway and Ullapool until the end of the week - around seven days later than originally planned.

She was due back around last weekend but that was delayed and now the date has been pushed back further.

Her temporary replacement, the MV Clansman, has postponed her annual refit for about a week until the Isle of Lewis arrives.

A Cal Mac spokesman said the MV Isle of Lewis is getting her turbo chargers replaced on the advice of the manufacturer for safety reasons.

The spokesman said: “An issue has emerged which requires further work, and that is now being addressed.

“Subject to this being successfully achieved and weather permitting we expect to have her back in Lewis towards the end of the week.

“In the meantime MV Clansman will continue to provide the service.”

Meanwhile, the MV Clipper Ranger has resume freight duties across the Minch after an absence of nearly three weeks. The ship was in Liverpool, in a neighbouring dock to the Isle of Lewis, for extensive repairs to her steelwork after bashing the pier in Stornoway harbour.
