A competition to guess the start date of the new Stornoway ferry has been launched.

Guesthouse owner Alastair Maclennan has come up with the idea if raising money for Stornoway Fishermen’s Mission with an online competition.

The winner gets a £100 shopping voucher courtesy of Tesco and Mr Maclennan’s B&B, Hal o’ the Wynd.

Continuing delays to strengthening the ferry pier in Stornoway harbour has prevented the Seaforth from taking up commercial service.

Mr Maclennan said: “The ferry cannot start until the completion of the pier works and with the weather we have been having recently the start date is still not known.”

He added: “For every pound you donate it entitles you to an entry to guess the date of her maiden voyage to Ullapool or another port along with the number of passengers on that sailing.”

Guess-the-ferry-date for £100 prize

27 January 2015

The person who selects the closest date and number of passengers wins the prize.

He chose the charity as “our fishermen throughout the world risk their lives on a daily basis and when things go wrong near our own shores Finlay MacLeod of the Fishermen’s Mission is there to help.

“Having witnessed the good work he does all on his own made it an easy choice to decide which charity to support.”
