Isles MP Angus MacNeil has expressed concern oover people being unable to get vehicle bookings on the Loch Seaforth between Stornoway and Ullapool due to it being full up.

Mr MacNeil has asked Cal Mac to consider using the now surplus MV Isle of Lewis to handle the extra demand on the route.

Angus MacNeil said: "I am concerned to hear that people are unable to get a car booking on the Loch Seaforth between Stornoway and Ullapool due to it being fully booked.

“Over the past couple of year's we have seen certain ferries on certain Cal Mac routes being unable to cope with demand at certain peak times.”

He added: “This kind of situation should not arise in Stornoway though as they have a fully crewed spare ferry which could be put to use at very short notice to cope with extra demand on the Stornoway to Ullapool route.

“There shouldn't be any capacity issues on the route when there is a spare vessel at the harbour.

“I was contacted by a constituent who was unable to make a vehicle booking on this route for three consecutive days, we now need to know what the response will be from Cal Mac on this issue.

“This is a summer where we will find out what the demand will be on the Stornoway to Ullapool route."
