Wind and breakdown hits Stornoway ferries    4/2/14

The MV Clansman broke down while crossing the Minch at lunchtime today. The vessel had already undertaken the early morning freight service instead of the smaller MV Hebridean Isles because of rough seas.

The Clansman then went out on her own timetabled passenger run and, on the way back, was about a quarter of the way off Lewis when one engine developed a fault.  The vessel is being repaired in Stornoway and is unable to carry Wednesday morning’s freight run.

The MV Hebridean Isles undertook the afternoon run to Ullapool as previously scheduled but winds are too strong for her to sail the freight voyage.
