Stornoway drugs arrest     3/9/14

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after an operation to stop drugs being taken into the Western isles.

The male was detained at Stornoway ferry terminal on Tuesday night.

Island police officers were waiting for the ferry to arrive.

They searched the male at 9.15pm yesterday.

He was allegedly found to possess an offensive weapon and a quantity of suspected drugs.

The man was taken to Stornoway Police Station and subsequently arrested.

He will be reported to the procurator fiscal for a possible court appearance.

Police said the arrest is part of ongoing police activities to combat the supply of drugs to the islands.
