An island man in his mid-fifties has died after taking ill while driving.

It follows a road traffic collision which occurred at low speed in Stornoway around 4.20pm yesterday.

A Renault Clio and a silver-coloured Mercedes collided on Macaulay Road, near the Napier Hill junction, on the brae past the Western Isles Hospital.

 

 

Man dies after taking unwell while driving

There were no serious injuries.

The driver of the Clio appears to have taken unwell behind the wheel said police.

The man in his mid-fifties was taken to the nearby hospital for treatment for a medical condition.

 

He later died in hospital.

 

Police Scotland is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police on 101 or call in at Stornoway police station
