Harris Tweed was also being promoted at the event which was hosted by Scottish Secretary David Mundell to mark St Andrews Day.

Guests included over 270 politicians and ambassadors from around the world – influencers who can spread the word about Scottish food and drink in key domestic and international markets.

They had the opportunity to taste and learn about a variety of Scottish food products such as the famous Stornoway Black Pudding, Loch Fyne Oysters and Shetland Reel Gin.

Shona and Claire Macleod of Charles Macleod Butchers were delighted when David Mundell helped out on their stand.

Claire said he was a “brilliant salesperson and definitely a strong ambassador for the Outer Hebrides.”

David Mundell said: “I am proud to showcase Scotland’s world class food and drink industry, worth over £14 billion every year to our economy.

“As the UK prepares to leave the EU, the UK Government is committed to helping Scottish businesses seize the exciting new trade opportunities ahead.”

The event coincides with the UK Government’s #GlobalStAndrews campaign – recognising Scotland’s impact across the world by bringing to life the exceptional and far-reaching work done internationally by inspirational Scots and those connected to Scotland.
