Bakery thief is jailed 25/5/14
A 24-year-old thief who broke into an island shop and stole nearly £600 has been
jailed.
Daniel Beaton whose address was given as 9 Columbia Place, Stornoway, pleaded guilty
to breaking in to Mackinnon Bakery’s premises at Plasterfield Stores.
Beaton didn’t spot the CCTV cameras and he was filmed rifling through four cash boxes,
said procurator fiscal David Teale at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Friday.
The money he stole was never recovered.
His lawyer asked for Beaton’s freedom to allow him the chance to repay the cash but
the sheriff shook his head.
Sheriff David Sutherland said: “The only possible disposal is imprisonment.”
He jailed Beaton for seven months discounted from 10 months for his early plea.
