Loganair ahead in Stornoway air wars

8 Nov 2017

More than two thirds of passengers on the Stornoway - Glasgow route are opting for Loganair rather than direct competitors, Flybe.

Fierce rivalry on the Stornoway - Glasgow route has resulted in ticket prices dropping.

Loganair’s effective ten year monopoly on the vast majority of mainland to island routes ended at the beginning of September when it pulled out of a franchise arrangement with Flybe.

But Flybe joined up with Eastern Airways to compete on the busier routes.

Passenger numbers at Stornoway Airport in October indicates more than two thirds of customers travelling between Glasgow and Stornoway chose to fly with Loganair, said the plane operator.

The airline’s commercial director Kay Ryan said: “We’re hugely grateful to the overwhelming majority of customers in the Western Isles who have shown their support for Loganair by choosing to fly with Scotland’s Airline.”

A Flybe spokesperson said: “Flybe is meeting with the Outer Hebrides Airport Consultative Committee tomorrow during which time it will respond to any queries raised relating to the Stornoway services operated on its behalf by Eastern Airways, and address a wider commitment to its customers.”
