A gale affecting the Western Isles is set to strengthen overnight into early Saturday.

70mph winds may be experienced at times.

No official public severe weather warnings for the Western Isles have been issued by the Met Office.

However, all ferries for the islands have been cancelled due to wild seas.

Waves were coming over the Bràighe sea wall roadway in Point, Lewis at high tide.

Castlebay School closed earlier than normal due to the bad weather.

Further gales are expected in the coming days.
