Hebrides News

A severe gale is expected to batter the islands on Wednesday, warns the Met Office.

A swathe of very strong winds is due to affect the Western Isles from late on Tuesday.

Storm force winds are due to batter parts of the islands with strong gusts continuing into Wednesday afternoon.

The incoming bad weather is caused by a deep area of low pressure moving to the north of Scotland.

The Met Office has issued a yellow “be aware” warning for north Lewis which may experience gusts of 65-70mph from late tonight until lunchtime tomorrow.

Heavy seas and high waves are expected down the west coast of the Hebrides, around the northern Minch and off east Barra

The forecast may to lead to some disruption to road, air and ferry transport.
