Stormy weather warning

6 February 2017

The Met Office has issued a yellow “be aware” warning of stormy weather for much of the Western Isles.

Wind speeds will increase over the morning with 75 mile gusts likely in exposed districts at the storm’s peak.

Harris to Vatersay will be battered by the worst of the weather while Lewis is forecast to experience just a regular gale for most of the day, increasing to severe gale strength late tonight.

Rain will affect all areas from early afternoon.

Rough seas in the Minch, particularly off the Southern Isles, will mean the cancellation and disruption of ferry services.

The adverse weather should pass overnight.

The Met Office warns: “Some disruption is possible to road, air and ferry transport, whilst localised power interruptions are possible.
