Storm force winds expected to hit this weekend 15/8/14
Gales are set to hit the Western Isles this weekend warns the Met Office.
Winds will increase in strength on Saturday with 30 to 40 mph gusts expected later on Saturday.
Gales will continue during Sunday and overnight into Monday morning,
Strong winds developing around a deep area of low pressure coming in from tte Atlantic
will lead to gusts of 50-
Very strong inland gusts are also expected, particularly in association with heavy showers.
The Met Office forecaster said: “While such wind gusts would not be unusual in the autumn and winter, they are likely to pose a few more problems coming in the summer holiday period: as such, some minor disruption to transport and outdoor activities is possible, for example delays to ferries, bridge restrictions and perhaps minor damage to trees.”
Winds will probably peak in exposed northwestern areas during Sunday evening and again along northeastern coasts early on Monday.
