Storm causes ferry cancellations     25/10/14

 

Storm force winds whipping up rough seas are causing chaos to west coast ferry services this weekend.

 

All Caledonian Macbrayne timetables for the Western Isles were cancelled as the weather worsened on Saturday afternoon.

 

The shipping company warned passengers that they may not be able to travel on Sunday due to continuing adverse conditions.

 

The Stornoway ferry, MV Isle of Lewis, was forced to head south of her normal course to try and lessen the ship rolling in the heavy swell in the Minch this lunchtime. She remained in Stornioway harbour after a delayed docking.

 

This morning’s ferry from Oban to South Uist was cancelled as is tonight‘s sailing from the mainland to Barra. Affected island travellers will not be able to get to the mainland until Monday afternoon

 

The inter-island ferries were also cancelled as is the MV Hebrides service to North Uist and Harris.  

 

The Met Office warns conditions will intensify to storm level with winds exceeding 60 mph around the Hebrides into Sunday morning.
