Storm brewing over Western Isles     5/10/14

A gale affecting the Western Isles will strengthen late on Sunday.

Winds could reach hurricane speeds over Barra as a storm hits the islands early on Monday morning.

Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, will move eastwards across the UK.

The Met Offices warns of the potential for travel disruption from the strong winds as well as standing water on the roads and reduced visibility from spray and driving rain.

The bad weather is caused by an area of low pressure will develop to the south west of the Hebrides on Sunday night as warm air from the south and cold air from the north come together.

The Met Office says winds will increase leading to very strong gusts around exposed coasts and hills.

As the system moves eastwards across the UK on Monday the winds will ease away though a further pulse of 60-70 mph gusts is possible over the northeast of Scotland.
