Islanders are urged to be prepared for potential disruption with storm force winds battering the west coast this evening.

 

Wind speeds over 70mph were recorded in South Uist this afternoon. Strong winds will continue into Tuesday morning.


Lightning strikes and high winds were set to cause powercuts.

 

A Force 11 violent storm in the Minch has resulted in cancelled ferry services with island ferries staying in port.

 

Large waves may wash over causeways and coastal roads.

 

Police Scotland Police Scotland said people should prepare for possible power outages.

 

The force also advised securing outdoor items which could be dangerous in the wind and also asked that communities look out for vulnerable neighbours.
