The hydro board has moved to yellow alert status in the north of Scotland ahead of
Storm Ashley, which will bring strong winds on Sunday and Monday.
Islanders are urged to be prepared for the possibility of disruption to power supplies.
Power cuts or damage to the electricity network can be reported by phoning 105.
SSEN’s weather model shows high winds forecast for much of the north of Scotland.
Winds of 50mph are expected for the Western Isles from around 6am on Sunday while
gusts of 70mph are possible later according to the electricity company.
The Met Office is referring to this as a named storm - Storm Ashley. An amber warning
for wind is in place from 9am on Sunday for the Western Isles and west coast.
A Met Office yellow warning for wind remains for the whole of Scotland from 3am on
Sunday.
SSEN says it is activating well-rehearsed plans, with teams in place to deal with
network faults and to fix any damage.
Teams in its customer contact centres are “fully prepared” to take customers’ calls
and queries.
“We have been telephoning our most vulnerable customers ahead of this storm arriving,
and we have already sent out nearly 40,000 text messages to other people who're listed
on our Priority Services Register,” said the utility operator.
“If you see any damage to our equipment, please stay back, don’t touch it and instead
report it to us directly by calling 105, or via our Power Track website, and our
engineers will investigate as soon as possible,” they added.
