Electricity network operator SSE is backing a major charity committed to eradicating fuel poverty.

Through a donation of £40,000, SSE will support Energy Action Scotland to raise awareness of the help on offer to those struggling to pay their energy bills.

The charity will publicise the help available from a range of trusted organisations, and produce materials to support frontline workers in housing, health, social care, welfare, benefits and energy efficiency, so that they can inform and help vulnerable individuals before they reach crisis point.

Stuart Hogarth of SSE distribution arm said: “This donation to Energy Action Scotland builds on the work we already do behind the scenes to tackle fuel poverty.

“We continually invest in our network to make it more efficient so we can lower the distribution element of customers’ electricity bills.

“We help vulnerable customers with priority services.

“We invest in the communities we operate to help them better cope with power cuts during severe weather.

“So, supporting a national organisation that has the expertise to tackle fuel poverty through this ongoing donation was a logical next step.”
