An visitor put his foot on the throttle on one of the longest stretch of straight road in the Western Isles.
But police were out with a speed gun and caught him doing 100mph in a 60mph zone.
Angus Tully, 35, from Edinburgh, was on the island for the Mòd last autumn explained his lawyer, Angus Macdonald.
There was no sign of any other vehicle, said the lawyer, and visibility was good at 11.30am on 20 October.
However, police were undertaking speed checks on the A859 south of Airidhbruach, Lewis, the court heard.
Sheriff David Sutherland fined him £400 and imposed six points on his licence.
