Island patients needing bone scans avoided mainland hospital trips thanks to the specialist assessments now being carried out in Stornoway.
Some 125 people have had bone mineral density scans in the Western Isles since the new ‘gold standard’ fracture liaison service was launched five months ago.
The service, officially launched by NHS Western Isles in November means that patients at risk of osteoporosis no longer have to travel to Dingwall for assessment.
At the heart of the service is a new equipment which measures the strength of bones and identifies patients at risk of osteoporosis.
