Wet and windy weather is forecast for the Western Isles today as a deepening Atlantic low moves in from the southwest.

The low will be centred northwest of the Hebrides by midnight tonight said the Met Office.

Wind speeds are due increase up to severe gale levels for a period.

Heavy rain in the afternoon should ease later.

Gusts touching 60 mph may be experienced in Barra.

It will remain blustery on Saturday.

Some ferry services will be affected.
