Swell conditions and a southerly gale are affecting Western Isles ferry routes today.

Mainland services for both South Uist and Barra are cancelled today due to high seas off the coast.

Winds are forecast to reach severe gale force in the Minch this afternoon and evening, particularly int he southern part of the islands.

Sailings on the Sound of Barra on yellow alert for the second half of the day.

The last return sailing of the Berneray ferry is liable to delay or cancellation.

The MV Hebrides will stop service on her 2pm arrival in Tarbert where she will tie up for the day. The return run to Skye and the onward service to Lochmaddy are cancelled. As the ship will be out of position, a revised timetable with delayed timings and a cancelled sailing will operate on Thursday.

 

Southerly gale continues to hamper ferry services
