The Daliburgh GP will not be available over much of the weekend and his out-of-hours calls will be passed to NHS 24.

Due to a family bereavement Dr Bird needs to leave the island at 3pm on Saturday.

Western Isles NHS advises from then until 8am Monday, patients with the South Uist Medical Practice needing access to general medical services should continue to ring the practice's normal out-of-hours telephone number (700908) and the call will be routed to NHS 24.

Alternatively, patients can call NHS 24 direct on their freephone number, 111. On receiving the call, NHS 24 will provide advice and, if necessary, pass the call to the on-call doctor in the Uists.

NHS 24 will normally ask patients for their name, date of birth, address, telephone number and name of usual GP to ensure that they are accessing the correct clinical details.

Patients should be advised that they need to give their telephone number to NHS 24 so that they can be contacted by either an NHS 24 nurse or the local on-call doctor.

Normal services will be resumed at the ractice from Monday morning.

Patients are reminded that in an emergency they should continue to contact the ambulance service on 999.
