Uist-bound passengers intending to travel on the Mallaig to Lochboisdale ferry will have a longer journey today.

The direct service from the mainland has been cancelled due to a forecast of strong gusting, north easterly winds at Lochboisdale.

Instead, travellers can first catch the lunchtime ferry to Armadale in Skye - at no extra charge - to connect with a 2.15pm special sailing to South Uist.
