Fears of a drought on South Uist has prompted Scottish Water to urge islanders to conserve water.

Fresh water is to be imported onto the island to maintain supplies to households. A temporary pipeline is being installed from Benbecula.

Peter Farrer, chief operating officer of Scottish Water, said: "We are encouraging everyone living and working locally to take simple steps to use water wisely."
