The Rassay ferry, MV Loch Linnhe, is being despatched to cover the Barra to Eriskay route which has been without a service for much of this week.

She is expected to take up the service on Saturday.

Regular vessel MV Loch Alainn is out of action due to “technical problems.”

An issue with her hull was discovered at the beginning of the week, forcing her withdrawal from service.

Cal Mac is rejigging the fleet to release the Loch Linnhe from her run.

Until then the Sound of Barra service is cancelled with the MV Hebridean Isles operating an alternative link with three runs a day between Lochboisdale and Castlebay.
