A drunken sailor is in prison tonight after performing a solo sex act in a Stornoway town centre shop.
Jaykissan Aujayeb of Bramish, Flurg, Mauritius is to be deported, Stornoway Sheriff Court heard.
The 36-
A not guilty plea to a similar allegation in a nearby store was accepted.
Procurator fiscal Karen Smith told the court that female customers saw what he was doing and alerted shop staff.
Police officers later boarded the passenger liner and its captain identified the culprit from shop's CCTV footage.
He was detained and his vessel continued her voyage without him.
Lawyer Angus Macdonald said the crew were not allowed to drink alcohol onboard.
While ashore in Stornoway he and two companions visited pubs and had a "substantial" amount to drink, mainly whisky which he was not used to.
Aujayeb wished to apologise to the woman for the upset he caused, added the solicitor.
Sheriff David Sutherland said he noted the accused was remanded in custody for three weeks, had no previous convictions and would be deported.
He imposed a £400 fine. He granted the accused's request for no time to pay which means Aujayeb receives an alternative sentence of 14 days imprisonment. With good behaviour, he is likely to be released in a week.
