A Western Isles social worker accused of sending sexually explicit texts to his female client and arranging to buy illegal drugs from another faces a formal disciplinary hearing by the profession’s regulator, Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Iain MacAskill of Lewis faces one main charge encompassing a number of alleged incidents including he flirted with a female client and claimed he had sex with clients previously.

The social worker with Western Isles Council gave her his personal mobile phone number and suggested the pair could have a personal relationship if he was no longer allocated to work with her, it is alleged.

He is also accused of discussing her past boyfriends with her and arranging to meet her in a hotel.

Iain Macaskill - who is charged with behaving inappropriately with the woman he was meant to be professionally looking after as a social worker - threatened to use his power to take her child away from her if she revealed his relationship with her, it is claimed.

According to the SSSC, the social worker is said to have made a series of sexually explicit texts to the woman between March and August 2010, some on his council work mobile.

He allegedly sent her 47 text messages in just one day in August 2010 when he had no legitimate reason to communicate with her.

In addition, he is said to have sent approximately 59 sexually explicit texts to a second unnamed person using his work mobile phone.

He is also accused of arranging to buy illegal drugs from a former social work client in the islands.

In addition, it is claimed he had text message conversations on his council mobile with another unnamed individual discussing his alleged use of drugs.
