Islander in court over social security payments 9/11/14
A man who obtained benefits he was not entitled to has been sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.
Angus Nicolson of 1 Cameron Terrace, Leurbost, Lewis, previously admitted two charges of failing to report a change of circumstances.
He obtained social security benefit of £6,024, housing benefit of £2,934 and council tax benefit of £653 he was not entitled to between 2007 and 2011 when he did not report he had a part time job as a cleaner in the Royal British Legion.
The money is being repaid, the court heard.
Sheriff David Sutherland imposed a two year community payback order and ordered him to undertake 150 hours of unpaid community service work within the next year.
