Allan selected as SNP candidate         27/7/10

Sitting MSP  Alasdair Allan has been selected as the SNP for the Holyrood elections in May 2011.

The local party also made clear they intend to fight a positive campaign to win in the islands  again next year.

Although it was open to any SNP member in the country to  seek nomination in the islands, only one person did so, Alasdair Allan.

He was formally selected after an unanimous vote amongst local members at a meeting in Rodel on Saturday.

Cathy MacInnes, convener of the local constituency  association, said:  "Na h-Eileanan an Iar Constituency SNP are delighted that  Alasdair Allan has been selected to represent the party in the forthcoming  Scottish Election.

“Alasdair has worked tirelessly for the constituency since his  election in 2007 and has ensured the Western Isles are considered in all  decisions of the Scottish Parliament. "

Alasdair Allan MSP added: "It has been an enormous privilege to represent the Western  Isles since 2007, and it is a job I take seriously.  I am very grateful for  the support which the SNP in the Western Isles have demonstrated by asking me to  be their candidate again next year.

"I believe the SNP Government has a record it can be proud  of, both

nationally and in the islands.  Only the SNP can ultimately stand  for Scotland's interests, because only the SNP is answerable to Scotland alone.  And only the SNP wants people in Scotland to have real power of their own  affairs.

"I look forward to fighting the seat again, and am  determined to win again the trust which people in the islands have been kind  enough to show me in the past."
