Isles MP, Angus MacNeil said “Scotland and the SNP have a plan for a positive way forward" following the political chaos caused by the outcome of the EU referendum.

He highlighted a second independence referendum is on the cards as the Scotland which voted to remain part of in September 2014 "no longer exists."

First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon is the only UK politician showing strong leadership and a "strategic vision" in the situation, he said.

The MP added: “In stark contrast, Westminster is in disarray with the resignation of the Prime Minster, a possible vote of no confidence in the leader of the opposition and absolutely no plan whatsoever on what the next steps will be following the LEAVE result."

Mr Macneil is confident Scotland has a future within the EU.

He said: “We respect the desire of England and Wales to leave the EU and we want our neighbours to do well, however we can’t afford to jeopardise Scotland’s future and so we will continue to work to protect Scotland’s interests."

The MP stressed European citizens living in the Western Isles and "welcome and valued" in our communities.

He added: "I have already reassured some people personally in my constituency that I am on their side, the SNP is on their side and they will remain in Scotland.

"They are valued equally with everybody else for as long as they choose and in reality the islands need all the people we can get."

Scotland has "positive way forward" after Brexit vote, says Macneil
