SNP candidate Angus MacNeil has welcomed Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland’s announcement on a range of policies a strong SNP will push for to deliver a better deal for pensioners.

 

He says the SNP has already taken action in government to protect the interests of pensioners in Scotland – including investing in free personal care and the concessionary travel scheme.

 

Soon the party is to set out details of what SNP MPs at Westminster will push for on behalf of older people.

 

Angus MacNeil said: “The SNP has a good record in government when it comes to standing up for our older people and in the islands we are very aware of the importance of that.

 

"The SNP has protected and extended the concessionary travel scheme and free personal care which ensures our older people receive the standard of care they deserve regardless of their ability to pay has been one of the biggest landmarks of the devolution era.”

 

He suggested a strong team of SNP MPs holding the balance of power at Westminster would “deliver a new and better deal for pensioners in Scotland.”
