Heavy snow and gale force winds are forecast to hit the Western Isles tomorrow (Wed).

Wintry squalls will bring the first blast of snow from the morning.

Snow showers could become more frequent. Some may be heavy, giving slight to moderate falls.

A severe gale may affect the islands for a period with rough seas expected in the Minch. The strong winds could cause snow drifting.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert to highlight the icy blast.

Wintry showers are expected to continue on Thursday.

A milder Friday should see rain showers on low ground with snow higher up.

Snow showers and strong winds will return on Saturday and Sunday.
