A Lewis man has won the prestigious Silver Pendant at the Royal National Mòd.

Coinneach Macleod is originally from Cromore in Pairc and is now living in Glasgow.

 

He also received the Alasdair MacInnes Memorial Trophy for his high marks.

 

In addition he was awarded the Katie Stewart Memorial Trophy as well as the Bank of Scotland Cup in separate solo singing events .

 

Mr Macleod - a development officer for UEFA – the union of European football associations – took the prize on his third year of trying.

 

He has been a member of Glasgow-Islay choir for 14 years.

 

Ishbel Campbell of Tiree triumphed in the ladies’ category. The 37-year-old hopes to become a Gaelic medium teacher.

 

She had a successful competition, also winning the Catherine Gemmel Memorial Trophy (for female with highest marks), and two prizes for highest aggregate marks in qualifying competitions for Gaelic and Music - the Morag Robb Memorial Salver and the John A MacRae Quaich.
