‘Significant reform’ required at Stòras Uibhist says new chairman

The newly appointed chairman of Sealladh na Beinne Mòire, parent company of Stòras
Uibhist has highlighted changes are on the cards for the South Uist community landlord.
Iain Stephen Morrison has been selected as chair by the company’s board of directors.
He takes over from Mary Schmoller who held the role for six years.
Mr Morrison said: “I am humbled to assume the chairmanship of the largest community
landowner in Scotland and promise to lead this organisation with integrity.
“It is imperative we work to make our company sustainable, while at the same time
improving the economy and environment of our estate, furthering the interests of
the community.
“I am fixed in my view that, in order to realise real benefits for the people of
these islands, significant reform is required at Stòras Uibhist.
“The work of change begins today.”
Ronnie MacKenzie who has been appointed as the new vice-chairman said: “We must now
get on with the work of making Stòras Uibhist deliver for the people who live on
the estate.
“Listening and working with the community is essential if we are to work together
towards shared aims that will make our islands more prosperous.”
At the board meeting, held after the organisation’s annual general meeting, the directors
of Sealladh na Beinne Mòire acknowledged the outgoing chair, Mary Schmoller, and
Norman MacAskill, who stood down, after many years as a director.
They also welcomed John Daniel Peteranna, who was recently elected as a director
by the membership following a postal vote.
Sealladh na Beinne Mòire has seven directors - Iain Stephen Morrison, Ronnie MacKenzie,
Catriona Walker, Donnie Steele, Mary Schmoller, John Daniel Peteranna and DJ Cameron.
Directors also sit on the subsidiary companies Lochboisdale Development Limited and
South Uist Renewable Energy.
