The newly appointed chairman of Sealladh na Beinne Mòire, parent company of Stòras Uibhist has highlighted changes are on the cards for the South Uist community landlord.

Iain Stephen Morrison has been selected as chair by the company’s board of directors. He takes over from Mary Schmoller who held the role for six years.

“It is imperative we work to make our company sustainable, while at the same time improving the economy and environment of our estate, furthering the interests of the community.

“I am fixed in my view that, in order to realise real benefits for the people of these islands, significant reform is required at Stòras Uibhist.

“The work of change begins today.”

Ronnie MacKenzie who has been appointed as the new vice-chairman said: “We must now get on with the work of making Stòras Uibhist deliver for the people who live on the estate.

“Listening and working with the community is essential if we are to work together towards shared aims that will make our islands more prosperous.”

At the board meeting, held after the organisation’s annual general meeting, the directors of Sealladh na Beinne Mòire acknowledged the outgoing chair, Mary Schmoller, and Norman MacAskill, who stood down, after many years as a director.

They also welcomed John Daniel Peteranna, who was recently elected as a director by the membership following a postal vote.
