A teenager who broke into his local village shop has been instructed to return to the premises and pay compensation face-to-face.

John Mitchell previously pleaded guilty to theft by breaking into Buth an Rubha in Point, Lewis, and taking a quantity of alcohol and cigarettes in November.

Mitchell must meet his victims - staff at the volunteer-assisted community venture - he was told at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Lawyer, David Teale, said the teenager had the cash with him and could pay through the court.

But Sheriff David Sutherland stressed the 19-year-old of Seaview, Knock, Point, must personally hand it to the shop management.

He was placed on supervision for the next three months and will return to court in December for final sentencing.
