This month’s sheep sale in Stornoway has been postponed due to stormy seas.

Bad weather means sold stock would not be transported off the island following the scheduled sale on Thursday.

The mart has been told that Cal Mac will not carry livestock until the weekend due to expected rough seas and high winds.

Even then, rebooking large livestock floats onto the ferry could be difficult with high demand as many families are travelling to the mainland at the start of the October school holidays.

The sale now take place on 17 October.
