The first boat to be built - in living memory - in Shawboat on the west coast of Lewis is nearly finished.

The outer hull is now complete and a public event has been organised to turn the 22ft long St Ayles skiff-type boat upright to permit internal fitting-out.

Remaining work includes thwarts, gunwales, assembling the rudder plus painting.

Volunteer helpers and observers are invited to the lifting event at 2pm on Saturday at Ionad Nan Seann Sgoil, opposite Shawbost School.

The boat was built under a local project to  encourage community.
