Sgoil an Rubha leavers trip to Fairburn

13 June 2025

Sgoil an Rubha’s intrepid P7 class have visited Fairburn Activity Centre in Muir of Ord for the school’s annual leavers trip.  The three-day trip which started with an early ferry ride on Wednesday 14th May was action packed for the group including making rafts, bushcraft, archery, paint ball and laser tag.

The trip which ran for the group of pupils was funded by local, community-owned wind farm Point and Sandwick Trust (PST) who also lent the group use of their minibus for the duration of the mainland trip.

Sgoil an Rubha Head Teacher, Donna Macleod said: “We are very grateful to PST for wholly funding our Fairburn Trip for the 2025 leavers.  The pupils had a fantastic time and in this financial climate, for parents not to need to worry about how they would pay for the trip, this really took away that worry”.

P7G student, Annie summarised the trip in her own words, “On Wednesday 14th May, the class of 2025, Sgoil an Rubha, went on the ferry at 6.30 in the morning. When we got to Fairburn, they asked if we wanted to do a scavenger hunt till lunch. That night we went to a movie theatre and watched Thunderbolt the movie and it was very good. And that was the best day of our lives! On the last day we went shopping and had fun! That was that and we took the sad journey home! Our favourite was laser tag and paint ball”.

Samuel and Kate added: “We did so much at Fairburn like how we had a dorm of three or four pupils that we had lots of fun with. Also, at night times we would do something exciting like the first night we watched a movie at the movies called Thunderbolts, which I really enjoyed.”

“We had so much fun, and I think everyone that was there now has a lot of great memories!”

The Sgoil and Rubha school trip takes place every year for pupils in their last year of Primary School and includes bus hire, ferry tickets and the activities at Fairburn and in Inverness.  PST have used their community grant programme which is funded by income generated by their three-turbine wind farm to support the school, donating almost £40,000 over the last 8 years.

PST General Manager DJ MacSween commented, “The P7 leavers trip always sounds like a brilliant time for everyone and we’ve loved seeing this years photos.  PST is very pleased to support Sgoil an Rubha in their efforts to offer their children such a wide range of opportunities and wish all the P7s the best of luck in their final half term at Primary School”.
