Wind speeds could reach around 80mph in parts of Uist or Barra during Thursday’s spell of severe weather.

 

If its present track continues on its predicted path, conditions should will start to ease as the eye of the storm is set to pass over the Western Isles from late morning to the afternoon on Thursday.

 

Wind speeds pick up again with the Southern Isles forecast to get the worst of the gale.

Southerly winds with heavy rain will change to bring cold and wintry conditions from the north or north west as the day progresses.

 

The effect of high winds could see wind chill temperatures fall to around -5° in places.

 

It will remain blustery and wintry on Friday.

 

The Met Office said: “Southwesterly winds will increase early on Thursday morning with gales or severe gales developing.

 

People should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to transport and possibly power supplies.
