A developing severe gale is expected to hit the Western Isles from Wednesday evening and Thursday.

The Met Office said gusts of 50-65 mph are likely.

Wind speeds up to 75 mph may affect western coasts and over exposed hills.

People should be aware of the risk of powercuts as well as disruption to ferries and transport.

The Met office said a deepening area of low pressure is expected to pass close to the extreme northwest of Scotland on Thursday.

Given its present track, conditions may be worse in Uist and Barra.

A gale is also expected to persis throughout Friday.
